I titled this one "how I have a good hair day" because the days I love my hair, might not be everyone's perfect hair day. I love
messy. I love
texture. A little
wave, a little
bed head.... I'm all over it.
But of course the grass is always greener on the other side. Being that I am Japanese, I have stick straight hair. If you are blessed with naturally curly or wavy hair, this process is probably a lot easier for you. Straight haired girls, do not fear, we can get you some beachy waves too! Follow my lead.
When I want my beachy waves, I wash my hair at night, you'll see why.
- After towel drying my hair (not completely dry, I'd say like 40-50% dry) I spray my strands with my all time favorite product "It's a 10" leave in conditioner, a couple sprays from root to ends of Charolette Ronson's sea salt spray (both Bumble & Bumble and Paul Mitchell Awaphui make great sea salt sprays as well), and put a couple pumps of Paul Mitchell's skinny serum on my ends.
- I will also use some mousse every now and then for extra hold, I love Paul Mitchell's Awapuhi mousse.
- Brush through the hair, scrunch and twist parts of my hair.
- The best part...sleep on it.
- If you are going to do this process in the morning, that works too, I would just skip "sleep on it" and go straight to your diffuser. That will work really well with wavier/curly hair.
When I wake up, my hair is usually almost dry or a little bit damp.
- If I need to, I will blow dry with a diffuser - a blow dryer attachment that is meant for wavy/curly hair that helps maintain curl while drying and diffusing frizz.
- Then I take my curling rod or straightener (I use & ADORE my Paul Mitchell pro tools iron & curling rod) and go through and add a couple messy / non uniform curls. This is the key to getting that beachy look without looking like a bum. You want to look effortless not homely. This is the time that my frizzy friends might need to do a little bit more smoothing with the iron, where as the straighter girls might need to do a bit more, find what works for you.
- Finish with a light hold hair spray (Kenra number 9, plus it smells like cotton candy) to avoid any extra weight on your hair for straight hair, it can actually pull the wave down and out of your hair straight haired girls. If you are curlier, feel free to use a higher hold hair spray.
- A mist of shine spray (It's a 10 miracle shine spray) to leave your hair looking healthy and shiny!
There you go, easy peesy lemon squeezy. Hope you guys have a good hair day with these tips and leave me any feedback/praise/questions!!
with love,
